Orem, Orem Public Library - Storytelling Wing

Author and Brigham Young University professor Brad Wilcox will discuss the importance of developing literacy at 7:00 p.m.  After his address, the audience is invited to listen to a panel discussion addressing promoting literacy in the Utah community.  Panel members include Orem City Councilman Carl Hernandez, BYU Education Professor Jim Jacobs, and Alpine School District Superintendent Gary Seastrand.  Dr. Wilcox will sign copies of his new picture book There's Always a Way, Annie McRae following the event.

The Big Read

Focus on Harper Lee’s classic novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” The Orem Public Library, one of 208 organizations to receive a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host the Big Read this year, will host presentations, performances, storytelling, and discussions. Kick-off is Monday, September 8 at 7 p.m. in the Library’s Storytelling Wing and will feature Rex Ellis, acclaimed storyteller and vice-president of the Historic Area at Colonial Williamsburg.

Collaborating organizations include Utah Humanities Council, Orem Public Library, National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Midwest, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
