Dave Sim was born in 1956 in Hamilton, Ontario. He has lived in Kitchener since 1958 and admits to being a basically insalubrious individual. His hobbies include thinking and dangerous philosophy, as well as shamefully participating in unsavory practices like marriage and strip chess.

Regarding a career as a graphic novelist, Sim states, “On the writing side, there is very little room to maneuver. I tried writing some additional material for Rick’s story and found out there was no room for it. On the drawing side, both Ger (Gerhard) and I are finding out that everything we’ve learned about drawing over the past fifteen years is a lot of weight to bring to work every morning. We expect a lot from ourselves—probably too much—so we’re invariably disappointed in ourselves. I wish I was as good at drawing as people seem to think I am, and I suspect Ger is the same way.”

Gerhard was born in Edmonton Alberta in 1959. He has lived in Kitchener since 1961. He loves sail-boating and cats.

Friday, Oct. 27, noon - 5P, Salt Lake City Library Auditorium:
Internationally recognized writer/artist Dave Sim and artist Gerhard will read from Cerebus, a work that took over thirty years to complete, as well as answer questions on the art of creating a graphic novel. Gerhard will offer a gallery walk through the exhibit, Ye Books of Cerebus, after the question and answer period wraps up, with an autograph session to follow. Cerebus is unchallenged in the world of the graphic novel. No one else in the history of the graphic novel has ever single-handedly produced such a respected and internationally read body of work. It is the longest graphic novel globally celebrated and read; discussions of Cerebus are often based on the controversy it has created.

David Sim and Gerhard will appear on Friday, Oct. 27, Noon-6 pm in the Salt Lake City Main Library, Auditorium with the Art Exhibit Stroll, 6-7 pm in the Lower Urban Room.
