Panel: Writing Biography and Autobiography. Biographers and autobiographers will discuss writing in this popular form. Two panelists are confirmed: Judge Andrew Valdez and Parker M. Nielson. Valdez is author of No One Makes It Alone. Based on his own life, this book is the true story of how a poor, fatherless, Westside Latino paperboy—destined to be a respected judge—is plucked off a cold, wintry Salt Lake City street corner by an Anglo business owner who mentors and fathers him. Valdez is currently Third District Juvenile Court Judge in Salt Lake City. Parker Nielson is co-author of Thunder Over Zion: The Life of Chief Judge Willis W. Ritter. Nielson tells the story of this Salt Lake judge who was, legally speaking, a friend to the underdog. Yet at his death, Ritter had scarcely a friend left and he had become the object of ridicule, outrage, pity, and contempt. Join these writers in a discussion of the challenges and rewards of writing in these genres.
