The 2011 Utah Book Award finalists have been announced! The Utah Book Award winners will be selected from among the finalists and announced at an event on October 5th. Read the press release for more information and join us for an evening in celebration of Utah and local writers!
The Utah Book Award was established by the Salt Lake City Public Library to honor exceptional achievements by Utah writers and to recognize outstanding literature written with a Utah theme or setting. In 1999, the first and only award was presented to author Robert Van Wagoner for his novel Dancing Naked. Since then, the categories have been expanded to include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and literature for children and young adults.
The Utah Center for the Book invites nominations beginning January 1, 2013 for the annual Utah Book Award, a program that continues to be administrated through the Salt Lake City Public Library. This year's Utah Book Award will honor books published in 2012 that are judged to best represent the literary culture of the state in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, young adult and children's literature. The competition is open to Utah authors and authors of books with a Utah theme or setting. A "Utah author" need not currently reside in Utah if he/she is a Utah native or is an author who forged significant and sustained literary ties to Utah while residing here in the past. The deadline for entries is April 1, 2013. Award winners will be announced in October 2013 at the Utah Humanities Book Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah.
To be eligible, books must be published and bound professionally, assigned an ISBN, and published in 2012 as indicated by the copyright date. Loose-leaf materials, downloadable books, and books recorded on tape or compact disc will not be accepted. Winners in each category receive $100; finalists receive $50. Entry forms are available at the link below.
